Seymour Tubis [1969]

 

Seymour Tubis was born near Philadelphia, PA in 1919.  He is known for his abstract and expressionistic paintings, sculpture and prints.

Tubis studied at the Temple University Museum School, the Art Students League in New York City, and at the Grande Chaumiere in Paris, France, as well as the Instituto d'Arte in Florence, Italy.  He was also a student of renowned painter Hans Hoffman, and of Georges Braque, who attended Tubis' first Paris show.

The artist was an instructor of painting and printmaking, as well as Fine Arts Chair, at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico.  He lived in California and Colorado, and travelled widely in Europe and Mexico prior to his death in 1993.
